A AUTO RICKSHAW FRIENDSHIP
If you ever had the privilege to study at the esteemed MCPUC-Mount Carmel Pre University College you would come to realise that real rejection (the really painful one) is not that from a boy you like, but from a complete stranger of a man who is an auto rickshaw driver.
SIDE NOTE-- do I call them drivers or riders, I mean the steering is like a scooter but it feels more car like...so....
NEVERMIND
Coming back to where we were, I came to realise this verrry early in my life at MCPUC.
Auto is a need -a requirement of sorts- for us to be able to go to the metro station from college. There is also a bus, but the timings of it is just as unpredictable as the Bangalore weather. Now I know some would argue, "Can't you just book an auto?". Well you try booking one and then we will talk.
But do you know whats better than being rejected alone??------Being rejected with somebody by your side...its less embarassing, less scary and less awkward.
I was standing outside our college gate waiting for an auto. I stopped many of them--- some would totally ignore your existence, while some others were kind enough to acknowledge you and nod (in disagreement of course). While standing hopelessly, I saw another girl looking just as stuck as I was. I decided that it would be a great idea to walk upto her and talk. Yeah! great time to socialise. There is no bad time to socialise by the way.
"Hi", I said.
"Hi..?", she said.
"Metro?", I asked.
"Yeah...", she said.
Perfect! I don't know what happened after that, but I am pretty sure I spoke a looooot. A lot, enough to make sure she does not forget me. And she didn't. From that day on, we met everyday after class and went to the metro station together. We got rejected together, a lot (by auto drivers, ofcourse).
Eventually, we found that we share a class together. FRENCH! Très bien!
I introduced her to my friends and it was marvelous....
Thats when I realised, friends can be found anywhere in life. You just have to take the shot. Sometimes I wonder, what would it have been like if I never spoke to her that day..... I guess I'll never know.
✦A piece of advice to anyone planning to go the Mount Carmel (or anywhere for that matter), use the auto rickshaw time as a great way to make friends. Trust me, you'll find some really awesome humans out there.
